The task

There are two parts to the task. The first part prepares students for the actual assessment task, which is the Evaluation Report.

  1. Students apply the evaluation criteria they have developed to their design solution and process by completing the Evaluating/critiquing worksheet (doc,15kb).
  2. They draw on their Evaluating/critiquing worksheet (doc,15kb), learning logs or journals (prior learning), their responses to the Issues worksheet and discussions around social, ethical and environmental issues that impact on design ideas to develop an evaluation report that discusses:
    • the effectiveness of the product in addressing the challenge as outlined in the design brief
    • the appropriateness of the design solution for the specified audience
    • changes and modifications made to the design/solutions throughout the process as a result of ongoing evaluation
    • ways in which society, ethics and the environment can impact on the product
    • ways in which the product can be modified to better address the brief as well as issues that impact on society, ethics and the environment
    • the effectiveness of the processes followed
    • ways in which the processes could be modified to be more effective.

Where possible students choose the way in which they present their evaluation, but if necessary, teachers could restrict the range of formats they can use, eg oral, electronic, written etc.
